Traveling around New York City can be an adventure in and of itself. You’ve got the subway, taxis, busses and car shares to choose from but did you know that the NYC Ferry is also a great way to get around? Let’s talk about the ferry!
It’s cheap! At only $2.75 (the same as a subway ride), it’s an inexpensive way to get from point A to point B. They usually cover larger areas so if you’re looking to go from uptown to downtown or from Manhattan to Brooklyn, this is a great choice. Guided boat tours can cost $60+ but you can do your own cruise-on-a-budget with the ferry.
It’s easy! Download the NYC Ferry app on your phone to see ferry schedules, get directions and buy tickets. On the “directions” tab, simply put in your starting point and your destination to see if there’s a convenient ferry for you to take.
It’s beautiful! Taking the ferry is a great way to see NYC from another vantage point. For example, if you take the ferry from the the East 90th St Pier to Wall St/Pier 11, you will see the United Nations, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Brooklyn, and One World Trade - all while cruising the East River. You’ll get some really cool photos and videos as you travel underneath the Queensboro, Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.
Public transportation is awesome in NYC, and the ferry is no exception. Be sure to try it out next time you’re here and tag @comingtonyc in all of your photos so we can check out all of your beautiful pics from the boat!
