My sophomore year of high school is when everything changed for me - that’s the year I had the opportunity to travel with my dance team from Texas to New York City. I had never experienced a city with more excitement, culture, diversity and energy in my life and it was then that I knew it was MY city.
I continued to live in Texas for 10 more years after that trip but traveled back to New York City every chance I got. I came with my college dance team to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, with a college group to feed the homeless, with my husband on vacation, with extended family for the holidays and with 30 high school students that I was teaching so that they could experience New York City like I was able to when I was their age. If you name a way to travel to NYC, I probably did it.
In 2014, my husband and I decided it was time to stop visiting the city and move here. We sold almost everything we owned, packed a small U-Haul and made a new life in a 100 year old brownstone in Brooklyn with our 2 year old and 5 year old daughters. Did the city live up to all of the expectations I had for her? Absolutely. We now live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and have had the privilege of experiencing this incredible city in so many great ways over the years.
On a weekly basis we have friends and family members asking us questions about what our lives are like in New York City and also asking for advice as they’re planning vacations here. After answering all of those questions and getting their sincere thanks for all the tips we were able to provide, we realized that our perspective and insight into the city could be really helpful for a lot of people.
That’s when I created Coming to NYC, an all-encompassing guide to the city I love. Through courses, podcasts, pictures on Instagram and stories on a blog, I will give you insights into the things I learned when traveling here as well as the knowledge I’ve gained from raising my family in the city. And the great part is, I’ll be active on all of these platforms so if you ever have a question, I’ll be more than happy to answer it for you!
Whether you’re visiting New York City for the first time or have dreams of moving here, Coming to NYC will have everything you need. I can’t wait to go on this journey with you.
Let’s get started!
